WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! ha...sorry had to do that Oh..I don't think Joan was in the right with Edgeplay, actually just the flipside to what Jackie is to this movie, although Joan's actions were a little more harsh on edgeplay. I think if Joan didn't want to participate with Edgeplay she shouldn't have come back later and made a fuss...exact same thing with Jackie on this film. I don't think Joan owed Jackie a phone call at all. Joan probably took Jackie's not wanting to be in the film as a middle finger. If Jackie's wishes were not respected she could then take action later. I think for years any prospects for a Runaways tour, album, reunion of any kind has always fallen through because even as adults they can't all get along. I think there is enough blame to go around. I think Joan has plenty of blame, but I just don't see Jackie as being 100% right here. People get upset that Jackie is not in this movie, but she didn't want to be...so how is it the producers of the films fault? The only one that seemed to want to get along with everyone was Sandy. I know Lita didn't want to be in the movie....but Lita was too much of a presence in the band not to be in the movie (Joan knows this). However, like Lita said ....they went through bass players like toliet paper..there were many. I Like Jackie btw and wish she was in the film, I just don't think others are to blame because she isn't in it.

Ron, you've got some valid points. This could be a big tax write-off for the studio and its investors ... by design, though the Sundance premier does seem to indicate otherwise. I think there will be enough of a buzz and it won't just disappear into the ether. But it depends on how good it is. Screening this early in the year, only quality will keep it alive. And I like what I've seen thus far, even if it's largely "just a fantasy." But I still hate the part about Sandy masturbating on the toilet. How disrespectful to her memory!

A scene with Sandy masturbating on the toilet? Geez, what is Joan thinking? I thought she didn't want to be in Edgeplay because she wanted it to focus on the music instead of being a Jerry Springer thing, and this film is going to have scenes like that?
By the way, anybody know what's going on with the Joan-Jackie lawsuit?

But did the masturbating (with drum stick?) really happen? I mean if Sandy told the other girls about it and it happened..why not? I think Joan respects Sandy way too much for her to put that in the movie if she didn't think Sandy wouldn't mind. I mean these girls were badass, stealing, sex, drugs, rebellion. I think Kim Fowley refered to the band as authentic slim. Maybe it is the John Waters tick in my head but I think if it makes some people in the audience uncomfortable then the masturbating scene worked.

But, there are somethings, true or fabricated for drama that should not appear on a screen. Trust me, Sandy would mind. Quite a bit.

Lit. Laguna, I'm pretty confident they went into this as a money making venture, as it has been written, this may be the first of many from BH films. I'm sure Joanie wants to tell her side of the Runaways story (although with the constraints of the Jackie litagation, and with the film being based on Cherie's hazy recollections and Floria pumping up the screenplay to be palpable to a wide audience) I'm not sure if the end product will do the band justice or if it will just be a ho hum musical melodrama... And if there is a Sandy mstrbtn scene that would be just wrong on so many levels...sexploitation at it's worst....

Ahh, "maplesyrup", welcome to the board. Rather, welcome back, with a brand new name. "Leeta's" dead career? Oh, I forgot. Cherie's has never stopped flourishing! What was her hit again? Remind me. A Runaways tour with only Joan and Cherie wouldn't be a Runaways tour. Anyway, as far as that masturbation scene, there are so many other ways to explore sexual discovery and coming out/coming of age that aren't exploitive. Who know how it was shot, or even if it made the final cut, but I sincerely hope Sandy's memory was held in high esteem and due respect was given. As far as that opening scene with the menstrual blood, does the audience really need to be hit over the head like that? They're coming of age, we get it.

not to beat a dead horse but...ha...I really see the Runaways as a rated R/X band. What was that movie that came out in the 80's, maybe losely based on The Bangles? To me that movie and the bangles for that matter was a rated PG band.
We'll have to see how the masturbation seen and menstrual scene is done, I agree it could be done in bad taste but I also think it could be done right and effective. It's not about shock value it's about being honest, and that is what the Runaways were. No one in this room or anywhere else (even Joan) can speak for Sandy. Its not just Joan and her evil empire of Blackheart Records, you also have Cherie (I know..she is part of that empire now) who has been a good friend with Sandy in recent years, I think she would also object if she knew Sandy would be against this scene. If people think that low of Joan and Cherie and the idea of this scene they probably shouldn't see the film, in respect of Sandy, if they feel that way. Ok enough beating that horse, I'm not going to change any minds in here and mine isn't going to be changed. I'm sure in the end we will all have things we love about the film and things we wished were done different. My guess is people who are already let down because it isn't what they wished it would be will be happy with it in the end. Long live The Runaways!!!!

I wonder if they will show Joan & Cherie ummm ....... let me be blunt ''Fisting'' ?
Sorry, I went there but Kim Fowley said he caught Joan & Cherie fisting in a interview many many moons ago.
I still wanna know more about Rick Springfield pimping out Cherie?
I agree Cherie on the rag & Sandy masterbating on the toilet shouldn't be in the movie.
I have the script but never got that far to read about Sandy and I am glad I didn't but I did read the part with Cherie on the rag .

Well said, Injett But- If that were any of us, I'm sure that we would like to be asked and have that approved before going to the big screen. For many people this will be the first introduction to the band. And, I'm sure if I was being portrayed that way, and my Mom were still in this realm, I would have issues with that. Esp if I weren't around to explain things beforehand, who really wants to see their child (regardless of what may have happened in the relationship) portrayed in that light? I can see the questions Sand's Mom will get. *feels squeamish* There are things in that script that did not happen, and with that said, I'm gonna stop because I'm really too close to this to be objective right now. I am looking forward to seeing it, And I am so glad the band will get some attention. We should have a "board meet" at one of the first screenings. I think we could all have some great conversation before and after. Who's up for it?
ETA- No fisting as I know of. No bottles either *grin* Remember- In a drama, you need the good, the bad, the sub plot, and the fall guy. Robin won't be portrayed as the fall guy because-see lawsuit.

you said it best Hawk.
Sandy's poor mom . I am hoping this scene has been cut out of the final project.
A meet up at one of the screenings would be cool but I am in no mans land so, I know I won;t be there but I hope some of you guys from the board do meet up for a screening and come back and discuss your thoughts.
I am so excited to see the movie. I just hate I might have to drive 2 hours to get to the nearest city to even see it.

Allegedly, Fowley pimped Cherie out to Springfield, first night they played the Starwood I think? She was supposedly on the rag then too, why does it seem that most of Cherie's stories center around blood? Totally getting to Freudian here!
