Hi Folks! I know that some of you may have been members of this forum for years. I just recently joined and would love to know fellow Runaways fans opinion, to see how close we may get with regards to musical taste. ;-) Those who took part already at this poll, feel free to skip through if you are not that keen on participating again - it is not compulsory. But still I'd love to see what the rest of you chaps and ladies regard as your favorite song from their first album! :-) Thanks and Kind regards, Lory x

Thank you Home Girl for voting and your comment. Some of the greatest songs ever written in the 20th century were spawn by pure, instant, genius inspiration. I think Cherry Bomb is a perfect example of that. Lory x

For me, it's a 3-way tie among Secrets, You Drive Me Wild, and Blackmail. But I voted for Secrets because:
Shhh. Someone's coming. Shhh. Be Quiet. If we get caught Just deny it
HAS to be one of the greatest lyrics of all time, period. Darn, that's catchy. ;D

I voted for Dead End Justice. I would have loved to have seen this performed live with fake blood and all.

Hey, all!! Ok. We're missing "Is it day or night" and "Lovers"! Are we? Or is this blind as a bat guy just not seeing them there....(I'm tellin' you, the eyes are the first to go! ) This album had been a part of my life for so long, I could never vote for just one fave. Not on the first album; each song is too special in so much as what it brings me back to. I guess I'll vote for "Cherry Bomb", as it's the first track on the album and has kind of become an anthemic tribute to the band and it's living memory.

thank you all for voting.
I have excluded a couple of songs as I could not add anymore than the quantity given. I have chosen the ones that I least like to pull out.
Personal opinion.
Bye

Ohhh, I see! (I should've know a Runaways fan wouldn't leave off songs accidently!) Really? Not so into "Lovers"? I guess that's one I've kinda grown to really like over the years, kind of simple and cool...But I don't think it was a fave of mine back in the day. Hmmm...kind of the same for me with "Thunder", I thought it was too, I dunno..."pop", maybe? I can't think of the adjective...But I like it more now. I go in phases with this album in particular, as in for a time I'll love, say, "Secrets", and then get obsessed with "You Drive Me Wild". I'll get tired of "Cherry Bomb" and leave it for a bit and then fall in LOVE with it all over again. Each song seems to have it's own little life with me, as I stated before... Such a great (not to mention hugely important) record.

I love Cherry Bomb, truly. But i had to vote for Blackmail just to be different. Besides, I am a bass player, and love the intro

Wouldn't the Runaways first album technically be the demo album Born To Be Bad with just the three members? I had heard a few of the songs but never actually owned a copy of this until recently. I was surprised to hear lead guitar parts on some of the songs. Who actually played those?

I don't know the answer to the lead guitar question Hal, but as far as this being the first album technically, I would say no. Fowley released this stuff (I don't think it's even "demo" materiel, I'm thinking it's just rehearsal that was tape recorded) after Joan Jett became a relatively household name, to capitolize on her fame and make a quick buck. It was released in 1993, and as you know, what we now refer to as the first was released in good ole '76. Secondly, when this was recorded, they hadn't yet been signed to Mercury. Anyway......I sure wish I had my Runaways t-shirt I sent away for from Creem magazine back in 1978. I wonder what ever happened to it...

Of course you are right Frank, the "demo" album is not really the first Runaways album. But now that it's here they are the earliest known recordings; hence my lament as to whether technically Born To Be Bad was the first Runaways album. I think you are totally right about what you posted because there are songs on there that sound like they have more of the group on them than just the three (3), although they do sound raw like a rehersal of sorts.

I have a copy of an interview that joan did with rodney on the roq and she said she played the leads when they were a three piece and that she wanted to find a lead guitarist desperatley because she is a rhythm player.
