Rrrreally? Interesting... It's funny, when I see Joan live, there's that bit or two where she plays a little co-lead with Dougie in "Everyday People". She seems to really focus extra hard during it. Not that she doesn't do it well, but it doesn't seem as second nature to her as when she's doing "her thing". I wonder if I'm such a "non-lead" guitar player myself because I picked up the guitar at 7 years old listening to The Runaways and being totally influenced by Joan's playing. It was just what I liked (as opposed to the long lead guitar solos of the era).... At this point, I wish I were at least somewhat able on lead, but hence....no.....only rhthym. How the flook DO you spell rhythyththm anyway.....

I agree, when I started playing I wanted to play all the solos like Lita and I failed miserably!! I just couldn't do it, I'm just more comfortable playing rhythm!

This album is a complete work start to finish, in my opinion (after umpteen thousand times hearing it). a sort of morality play, like "Tommy". To wit: A character is introcuced in the first cut, then comes a number of experiences she goes through---life on the street, sexual fantasies, relationship issues, rejection of her family's values (---two tv sets--don't mean a thing), declaration of her path in life (--life was saved by R&R) , more sexual fantasies, revenge, her life's philosophy (--if you get caught, just deny it). Next comes fake id, stealing cars, popping pills, getting busted, getting beaten, getting incarcerated, a lament (---never had a chance---planet sorrow etc), a failed escape attempt. The most disturbing pa rt of the play comes next: it doesn't end! There is no downbeat or coda, just Sandy's dirge-like drum solo that leaves you hanging out in space with no reolution to her plight.
To me, this album does not glorify adolescent and teen age fantasy like the media interpreted back then. It is really a warniing. "Ok kids, here is one way you can go, but then again here's the risk you take---good luck."

Best track on the first LP is Is it Day or Night?, in my opinion. Thunder and Lovers are great also. I always though Cherry Bomb was overrated, great, but overrated.

Going thru some old posts here. This poll is totally flawed because my favorite song, "Is it Day or Night" is not listed. So I chose "You Drive Me Wild" instead.

this is hard! This is my fav album from The Runaways and all their songs are catchy and has awesome solos lyrics and etc... but I'm between: Dead End Justice, Rock and Roll, Secrets and Blackmail. and I'll vote for Dead End Justice because the first time I listen to it I went blank and I din't understand the lyrics until I heard it the second time and it just not a tipical song because it's like a story and you try to figure it out.. and I love the end of the song with Sandy's drums, and the rhythm and solo of the guitar is unique!

I haven't posted in awhile here, lol. But to jump in...
Yes, it is Joan who is doing all the guitar parts, both rhythm and lead, on the "Born to Bad" demo
She also did the solo on "Hanky Panky" on the Bad Reputation cd.
I also agree w/ Jettford about ALL the songs! Since I saw Joan JEtt live a few months back, I fell in love all over again with "You drive me Wild" after seeing it LIVE!!!
You HAVE to love "dead end justice"! What an awesome Rock/Punk Opera!!! Killer Lead from Lita too!!!
I also love Blackmail! The bass, the beginning scream, the lyrics and attitude! Bad ass!
I personally think the song "Lovers" has a great guitar riff, and I think it's a SEXY song! The lyrics and Joan's soft sexy vocals!!! How can you NOT like this song, LOL
Cherry Bomb and American Nights are my favorite songs sung by Cherie Currie. Thunder and Secrets next!!!
Oh, Heck, I love the WHOLE album!!! ;D

I agree that I like the Blackhearts version of Cherry Bomb better but it wasn't always like that for me; my preference evolved over the years. The way the Blackhearts play it now is really excellent. Just listen to the Warped Tour version from Portland (2006) that is on iTunes. Wow. I especially like the way Joan changes the word "fox" to something else. She really sounds great on it and Dougie's playing is great on it too.
