Nice article talking to Jean Millington of 70s all female rock band 'Fanny'. As much as I love the Runaways it's annoying that when speaking of pioneering all female rock bands people tend to forget the likes of 'Fanny' and 'Goldie and The Gingerbreads' www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_14892809

this is true. however, the runaways got mentioned in the press wherever they went, fanny didn't, & goldie & the gingerbreads were more pop than rock. the reason the runaways are considered pioneers of female rock is because they were the first to get anywhere.

And also because they influenced so many who came later.

Fanny actually had a Top 40 US hit, which the Runaways never had. Their albums probably sold better in the US than the Runaways' did. But somehow they weren't as influential. They played more mainstream rock-pop that was already being labeled "dinosaur" music by the mid-70s.

You can't really put down those that came before them for they laid the foundation, the reason the Runaways got alot of attention was they were the first all-girl rock band which many believed were just a novelty act and not serious musicians until people saw them play and showed the doubters how serious they were. Also commercial success shouldn't be a factor when talking about the influence other artists had on one another, its all about the music and the attitude.

I'm not putting them down; they were a great group. I loved their cover of "Badge"

Most of Fanny's songs are forgettable. whereas most of the Runaways songs are unforgettable. That's the difference between good and great bands. The songs!

it's all subjective who is forgettable or unforgettable. I'm sure there are Fanny fans out there who find the Runaways forgettable.
