I doubt very seriously that this "movie" will be anything more than something else to purchase for die hard fans of the band if it ever happens at all which is the most likely scenario.

Here's another mention of the moive, this time about Kim Fowley and how he might be portrayed. WOW Report Press
Excerpt from Lina Lecaro's 9/19/07 "Nightranger" column in the LA Weekly:
Tweaking icon worship with his vintage framed shots of Marilyn Monroe–esque creatures and nude poster-size images of local luminaries like Mario Diaz and female-to-male (partial) tranny Buck Angel — not to mention an interactive window display with assorted freaks in blond wigs and white Marilyn dresses — this show brought out a host of fabulous guests including America’s Next Top Model makeup artist Sutan, Angus Oblong (creator of The Oblongs cartoon), operatic drag queen Squeaky Blonde and self-proclaimed “21st-Century Renaissance Man” Kim Fowley. He not only gave us the scoop on the upcoming Runaways movie, Neon Angels — to be directed by video princess Floria Sigismondi — but gave us a glimpse of his androgynous character/alter ego the “Satan of Silver Lake” from his “mascara and madness epic” Dollboy. He even took off his pants at one point to reveal a dress underneath! Yikes. As for the Joan Jett/Cherie Curie–backed biopic, we wondered how the not-exactly-beloved Fowley might be portrayed. His answer? “An American Malcolm McLaren version of General George S. Patton.” Not that he cares. As writer and producer of many of the girl band’s tunes, he stands to make bank on the soundtrack.

Not to be negative (and as I am posting this I can almost hear the groans) but does anyone really even care anymore? I mean of course fans of the band do but how many of us are there left? If you look at mainstream performers today and who their fans are I doubt they ever even heard of the Runways much less would buy a movie about them. Still, any publicity for the band is a good thing whether this movie ever happens or not.

Well i for one think the runaways are bigger now than they were back in the day cause they were one of a kind i mean you really don't see a band with all girls rock out like they did and as far as the fans my children love them.

Boy, I agree there!! My girls (ages 9, 12 and 13) play their albums ENDLESSLY!!! More than Hannah Montana even. I think all's thats needed is exposure!
I also think there's social significance in the material they sang about, especially for us parents raising kids in this day and age. They covered all the drawbacks, pitfalls and temptations of teenage growth and development.

Well that's an interesting thought to contemplate and I hope both are you are right. I notice Joan's fans have suddenly become much "younger". I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

You really have to wonder if the making of this movie is a labor of love or pain (as in the opening of a raw wound) for those involved. Considering that the Runaways finally seem to be getting some credit for what they accomplished, inasmuch as they have achieved some sort of legendary status, I would think that it might be compelling for them to tell their story in this way; through the eyes of their youth with actors playing their parts. If this movie gets made I hope it will make the band's achievements clear.

I found a magazine mention of the movie by chance. A friend of a friend of a friend passed on a supplement magazine called Movies Rock [Fall 2007]. It was included as a supplement to Lucky and I think it was also included with other Conde Nast publications. The article was called Rock 'N' Reel by Lisa Robinson. Jett Set The Runaways in the Netherlands, November 1977. Peter Mazel/Sunshine/Retna Ltd.
Not even the living can escape Hollywood's clutches. Neon Angels, directed by Floria Sigismondi, tells the tale of Joan Jett and the 70s all-girl rock band the Runaways. Also Floria added a Runaways picture to her website. www.floriasigismondi.com/news.php

From Wikipedia Floria Sigismondi (born 1965 in Pescara, Italy) is a photographer and director. Apart from her art exhibitions she is best known for directing music videos for Christina Aguilera, Muse, Billy Talent, Interpol, The White Stripes, David Bowie, Sigur Rós, Sheryl Crow, The Cure, Björk, Amon Tobin, Marilyn Manson, Living Things and Incubus. Her trademark dilating, jittery camerawork, noticeable as early as her video for Manson's "The Beautiful People", has been replicated by a great number of directors since. According with her official website Floria is currently working on her first feature film. She is both writing and directing this film, which is a coming of age story based on the '70s all girl rock n roll band, The Runaways. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floria_Sigismondi
