Hey all, I am going to remind you again that there is a lot of fakes and crap out there. We got an email today about t shirts. Ebay crap. The band does not make anything off bootlegs, so please don't buy them, and report them to your favorite band member.
look, if the band gets together and gets someone to represent them then maybe all the crap would go away, and great legit stuff would come in.
Just don't give thieves your $. Just say no. hawk

I saw an auction on Ebay for a "vintage t-shirt" of The Runaways selling for $150.00. It said "The Runaways" with the year 1983 over it. I wrote to the seller and said that the band was no longer in existence after 1979, and asked if he was sure it was truly a vintage shirt. (i knew it wasn't but wanted to hear his reply). He wrote back that he bought it at a thrift store, and that it was most certainly authentic. Big jerk...

Jackie had once asked me not to burn any of their music. I didn't have a problem having burned copies of the Runaways albums BEFORE they were on disc when they were unavailable but now there is no excuse.
Yeah, some nice official merchandise would be great.

interesting thread. yeah, I saw that 'vintage 1983' Runaways shirt too, it made me laugh out loud! that's the most ridiculous thing I'd ever seen, but unfortunately somebody who isn't in the know may make the mistake of actually buying it which sucks...
kind of like that 1978 'concert poster' that's constantly listed on ebay from Mabuhay Gardens or whatever with a picture of Cherie on it, with a date from LONG after she left the band... that thing is a bogus piece of junk too that came out probably 12-15 years ago and I've seen 100's of them sell on ebay. Again, to those who don't know it probably seems like a cool Runaways item...
I wish there was some official merch! Why did David Snowden stop making Runaways merch? Is he done doing that stuff all together? Because he made some nice "live in Japan" shirts like 7-8 years ago, and was selling those along with some other stuff like Runaways dog tags and thong underwear (which didn't do me much good as a man! not that there's anything wrong with cross dressing!), but since he ran out of/stopped selling stuff there is no 'official Runaways merch'. And as we all know, if there's a demand and no supply... somebody will usually try to fill the demand, and in this case it's with garbage like Runaways "1983" vintage tour shirts. As somebody stated, the only way to combat this is by making official stuff available, which would make their inferior bootleg stuff obsolete.
If anyone is listening or cares: I put in my vote for the band letting/getting somebody to do a run of official merch for them to sell through here or somewhere!

I think that's a great idea- It would be wonderful to have Runaways merchandise available off of this website; I wonder if it would help to send a note to Blackheart.

Here is my 2 cents. Kenny won't have anyone doing merch that he dosen't have control over. I am sure that some members would not want merch done with KL in control. I think it would have to be that the other members would have to put feet down and say we need an outside party that is not BH and that is all there is to it.
I don't know the deal behind when David was doing it, so can't help there. This is a messy situation, methinks.
Sucks huh?
There would have to be a compromise made.
There really has to be a united front to make stuff like this happen, but I have seen it before, one person can stop anything from happening.

That does suck, it's too bad. At first I was going to say "why does KL have to have anything to do with it at all?", but on second thought, he's JJ's manager. And I would think she wants him to cover certain aspects of her business affairs for his cut. Obviously i'm assuming, which is a bad thing to do... I totally see what you're saying, Hawk. Without a united front it's probably not gonna happen.

yeah, it sounds like the 'united front' is a long shot, but if they would agree to a contract which allows a third party to create/sell the merch and pays them a percentage of those sales it would probably be a good thing.
I don't think Runaways merchandising rights in 2008 (or at any point to be honest) is/was a million dollar thing that needs to be fretted and haggled over too much, if it was then somebody would have stepped up and done it to make some serious loot by now. But it would be cool if somebody would realize that if they don't do it right and officially once and for all then it will create a place for people to continue making shoddy knock off stuff.
If somebody wants a Runaways shirt, they should be able to buy one, and it should be an official one. That to me is the bottom line, and what I would hope could be achieved. And as I said with the exception of that line of merch David Snowden was selling for a while, there has never been official merchandise since the band broke up.

All of my experiences with David Snowden were great. I was sorry to see that he apparently isn't involved with Jett's merchandise anymore. I always had ideas on stuff that I thought would be good items but they never seemed to materialize but he did have some cool stuff and I especially enjoyed the fan club cds. It would be great if the Runaways had something like that. Also, David always had information when it was difficult to get anywhere else about shows and things.

We are talking about a movie coming out soon, perhaps. The merchandising rights from that using the name THE RUNAWAYS could be huge. Money=problems. I really hope that surviving members of the band, esp those who are not producers in the film, get together and say, Hey, what's the deal with movie merchandise? I have a friend in another band that a film was made from, the merch sales were in the millions. Because it was a film tie in, and there was a similar situation with a non united front, people got screwed. I just don't want to see that here. But then again, not any of my beezwax, at one time it was, so I still keep tabs on stuff. Carry On

Hawkeye- well, you're right, I hadn't considered the movie and what effect that might have on interest in the band. Maybe it will make them bigger than they ever were, who knows!? But in any case, you're also right that it would make sense to figure this stuff out now, before the movie and/or interest is there- because it will be a lot harder to figure out in the midst of all the action or after the fact!
will be interesting to see how it all plays out!

Special thanks to Kenny and Joan for making the movie happen and to Cherie for writing the autobiography it will be based on.
It seems to me like Kenny has always received a lot of unfair commentary, for a guy who has nothing but good intentions. I don't blame him for wanting to oversee things, at this point.
That being said, David was always a good guy and was always fair in his dealings.

That's exactly how I felt about Edgeplay...grateful.
I think some of the gripes about Kenny stem from fans feeling he somehow held Joan back in some way. Personally, I give him a lot of credit for refusing to give up when they couldn't get a record deal, and for the music that followed which is undeniably good.
