I was at my favorite bar in the Eugene/Springfield area of Oregon on Wednesday the 12th when I happened to sit next to a very nice, very chatty woman who called herself Laurie.
Over the course of a couple drinks, she mentioned that she had been the "last bass player for The Runaways". Now, I know just a little about that group and I always allow that whomever I'm talking with in a bar is likely exaggerating the story they're telling or just flat out lying. Either way, I don't care. It's all entertainment to me.
The next day I checked Wikipedia and, after finding an old photo of her on this site, I must admit I was surprised that she wasn't woofing me.
Anyway, I noticed her bio here listed her as "disappearing completely". Well, I am happy to truthfully report that Laurie McAllister is alive, well, cute, curious and engaging. I hope she'll pop in again sometime. I really enjoyed speaking with her.

Wasn't it Veronica who said she found Laurie working in a cat house in Holland? Hmmmm. I'm gald to hear she is alive and well. You might have asked her to check in here. Thanks for sharing your story.

Cool news about Laurie. Was she there by herself? Also, did she say what she's doing these days? Is any of it musical? I remember listening to the Rodney on the ROQ broadcast (in the audio section) from '78 and Laurie was really funny - particularly when she read that commercial on air. ~cc~

I remember listening to the Rodney on the ROQ broadcast (in the audio section) from '78 and Laurie was really funny - particularly when she read that commercial on air. ~cc~ Yes, she was alone there at the end of the bar. The stool next to her was the only one left open at that time. She did mention a few things about her current activities, but I can't consider it good form to speak about them without her consent. Initially, she was peppering me with questions about my life. When we realized we're music nuts, we talked about influences (she laughed when I mentioned my hero is Zappa - she admires the skills, but thinks he was a misogynist), gear (her BC Bitch, my Guild 12-string acoustic), and our mutual dislike of all things Sheryl Crow. I found her to be very quick-witted and talkative - funny, even. Not that I'd wish her to become a regular boozer like me at the bar, but she would fit in pretty well with the usual gang of lovable idiots there during the weekday happy hour. SW
