Joan Jett to Offer McDonald's CEO Food for Thought at Protest Vegan Rock Legend Urges Top Exec to Upgrade to Less Cruel Slaughter Standards For Immediate Release: November 30, 2010 New York — Holding signs that read, "McCruelty: I'm Hatin' It," and screening footage of chickens being slaughtered, punk-rock icon Joan Jett and other PETA supporters will protest outside the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, where McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner will be receiving an award. PETA's newest campaign strategy includes attending the speaking engagements of McDonald's executives and urging the chiefs to require the company's U.S. suppliers to switch to a less cruel chicken slaughter method that has been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is already used by McDonald's European suppliers. Date: Tuesday, November 30 Time: 5:30 p.m. Place: The Waldorf-Astoria, 301 Park Ave., New York McDonald's American suppliers are under fire for using an archaic killing method in which birds often suffer from broken wings and broken legs, have their throats cut while they are still conscious, and are scalded to death in defeathering tanks. By requiring its U.S. suppliers to update their slaughter methods, McDonald's could eliminate all these abuses. "The only thing I love more than rock and roll is animals," says Jett. "With a stroke of his pen, Jim Skinner could stop the most flagrant abuses that these birds suffer. He needs to stop clucking around and do the right thing." with thousands of people going hungry and starving around the world, an objection to how a chicken dies, seems to be a misappropriation of time, effort and money.... I long for the good old Wild West days, when farmers would behead their live chickens with an axe on a tree stump. Hence the saying..."you were running around like a chicken with it's head cut off"

LOL, my boss is a big Tea Party activist, but also a Joan Jett fan. She apparently didn't know that Joan is a flaming liberal, but I enjoyed telling her. ;D
