The First All-Female Rock Group Q Why are the Runaways, of recent movie fame, touted as the first all-female rock group? Didn't '70s girl-band Fanny come first?--David Molina, San Antonio, Tex. Photos: Hollywood Starlets Who Rock A Yes, but even before Fanny there was Goldie & the Gingerbreads, the first all-woman rock band signed to a major record label, Decca, in 1963. "I thought Fanny was very good, but none of them had the guts we did," lead vocalist Genya Ravan says of Goldie, which toured with the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, and the Kinks. "For us, it was a pleasure to do R&B. The other groups didn't. That put us a notch above." Vote for the best all-female rock group below! Thank you, we have already counted your vote. The Runaways 34% The Go-Go's 50% The Donnas 8% Indigo Girls 8% Don't let The Go Go's win, go vote. www.parade.com/celebrity/personality-parade/2010/05/23/first-girl-band.html

Are f*cking kidding me ?
I hate , hate , hate The Donna's & The Indigo Girl's.
Thats a very poor list if you ask me.
L7 - should be on that list hands down !

Of course you did. I thought you're this big Joan Jett and a Runaways fan and you vote for The Go Go's as the first all girl Rock band. They formed in 1978 which would make them not the first. The Runaways formed in 1975 so that would mean they came first.

June Millington posted this in the comment section:
"Saff, how old are you? How would you know that Fanny and Goldie (and Birtha, the Pleasure Seekers and actually many others) were not the first to make music that previously had been considered "guys only"? We were the tip of the spear that allowed the concept of such a thing, and endeavor, to be considered - have a bit more respect. By sneering at all of us you are negating not only our experiences but how hard it was to actually play in a band back then. I got tired of that attitude in the mid-60's into the '70s, and am totally over it now. You - have no idea. And you are wrong. June guitarist, and sister to Jean the bassist, Fanny

If L7 should be on that list which I agree with you on that one why not Sleater- Kinney or The Slits one of the best early punk bands ever! Lame list for sure, Indigo Girls f**k that. Love The Donna's though.

"Heart" wasn't an All-Female rock group, that's probably why.

Ha that quote's brilliant XD Ya but come on how boring would this board be if everyone pussy'd out and agreed with each other all the time. We all got different tastes in music, variety is a good thing.
