I'm not saying they are now, but as teenagers, they seemed so. Just my opinion. I mean Jackie 'freaked out' in Japan and Cherie had her problems so, I think he may have singled them out...you gotta admit Joan, Lita & Sandy was/are tough chicks.

Possibly having recently read Cherie's Neon Angel I feel for her a lot more than the others and understand where she was coming from at the time. Jackie was the only one who tried to fight for their own legal and financial rights and even attempted to get a new manager and producer for the band before the Japanese tour. Being as young as the girls were I think a lot of the blame on why they got so messed up is to put on their abusive management. Anyway, they still rock and flame our hearts after three decades: just three tough band members out of five isn't enough to do that, is it? :-)) Kind regards Lory

Kim Fowley deserves all the bad voodoo that comes his way. As far as giving The Runaways a start in the biz being his major accomplishment and savings grace, the raw talent these girls had (The Runaways) would have eventually found an outlet without him. If it would have taken more time, all the better, as they would have been more mature and been able to handle the BS that was thrown their way. More than likely they would have been promoted as accomplished musicians instead of sex objects as was done by Fowley. As stated by Fowley he was never in it for the long haul, he was always looking for the "next big thing". From his own interview,he claims to have had a ****ed childhood. For that, I feel sorry for him, but to impose his maniacal and perverse actions on others is unexcusable. I have always felt The Runaways (and their fans) have been cheated,in more ways than one, by Kim Fowley.

Thanks Lory, but I have a first edition copy and I have read it. I think Neon Angel is an excellent book for anyone who is trying to recover from addictions and have recommended it where I work as we have several related programs.

First of all, I want to wish all of you a wonderful holiday season… It’s a time for new beginnings and fresh starts… The past year was a tough one because of loosing Sandy. She fought a battle against an extremely ugly, vicious and painful disease with strength, dignity and courage. Sandy was so blown away by all of the love and support she received from all of you and I know that she left this world feeling a true sense of accomplishment and a heart full of love because of that. I want to personally thank Chrys and Dayna for creating a website and forum that all of us have been hoping for – an unbiased website that promotes the Runaways as well as their individual post-band projects. What many of you may not know is that several of us have and still do collaborate together on a lot of different projects – and I look forward to sharing the outcome of some of those projects with all of you via this site. In another category, many of you have mentioned that you would like a Runaways music video DVD... FYI: The show does exist and has for a while - While we were producing the second version of “EDGEPLAY: A film about the Runaways” (“EDGEPLAY v.2”), we also produced a companion DVD that included all of the “official” Runaways music videos and promotional clips. Each music video was bracketed with present day interview footage of various band members explaining the whole songwriting/recording process and the surrounding events. The DVD also contains additional celebrity interviews and a ton of truly never-before-seen footage of the band – shot by fans on super 8 film. We look forward to being able to dust off that master and release it for all of you in the very near future because it’s a wonderful DVD that, like this current website and message-board/forum, really celebrates the true spirit of the Runaways. Happy New Year! With love from - Victory Tischler-Blue & Sacred Dogs Entertainment www.sacreddogs.com

Wow, I just got done watching this! Hadn't seen it before, ain't netflix great!!!
I always loved the music but I was never one who got in to the personal side of bands, I just rocked with them. Watching this my heart went out to those kids. I mean I was a tough street chick and I remember the drinking and drugging and if you watched films of it it would probably look like I was having fun. But I remember the deep lonliness inside too. I think touring in a band among basicly strangers would intensify that a million times over and I can't even imagine it1
I know I don't have all sides of the story but I think it's pretty obvious fowley didn't have these kids best intrests at heart!
Vicki, this is also my first post to the board! I have visited a bit but never registered. How nice to see you here! Thank you for edgeplay, I truely enjoyed it!

Before seeing "Edgeplay" I knew practically nothing about The Runaways. Then I saw "Saturday Night Special" on VH1 Classic. I loved the song, recognized Joan and knew I had to learn more about these girls. "Edgeplay" is now not only one of my fave documentaries, but one of my fave movies, period. Despite all their hardships, The Runaways were a truly great band. Even 28 years after they broke up they are still gaining fans (and I am an example of that). The music is timeless and Thank G-d it has been re-released. But the fans are so hungry for more.
Vicki - You were a part of something really special. Thank You so much for writing in. I know the DVDs will be worth waiting for!
