Doesn't everyone just love this movie? too bad Joan couldn't be apart of it, but i'm sure she has her reasons. It's so heartbreaking but it has its up points too - what are your favorite parts of the documentary? I love seeing the pandemonium when they arrived in Japan and i also love listening to Lita. She's a badass, but she's freakin hilarious. From the hypochondriac thing to the end credits (can I say f*ck and sh*t?). Cherie is pretty funny too, especailly when she's taking about her Bowie "experimental" phase. But for me all the joking is overwhelmed by Sandy's heartfelt plea at the end -- it's so sad that her wish will never come true

Hi JettSteph21 I saw Edgeplay several times from the moment I bought it. English is my second acquired language so that explains why I saw it many times around I agree with you on the hilarious side and touching, moving sort of last unfulfilled wish by Sandy, but overall there is too much being left out to define it a brilliant movie. And that is because Joan Jett, the key element in the band, did not agree on allowing to show parts of original Runaways songs therefore original footage of them performing their own songs. Since Joan is not featured in the movie we only get a partial view on the whole story. However I was shocked and horrified to know about what Kim Fowley did to them. I bought the DVD around the end of October, a few days before Sandy's passing away, strange enough...Up until that point I only new about Fowley's exploitation through a long article published on a 2000 Mojo's issue - a wonderful article with great pictures... After watching Edgeplay I decided to get a furthermore analytical subjective point of view from my favorite Runaway, so I bought myself Cherie Currie's "Neon Angel" her autobiography - Have you read it? I recommend it, but beware: some parts might be very hard to "digest". I felt for Cherie Currie on several of these "hard to digest" parts. Having said that her account on The Runaways experience is incredible, essential for any Runaways fan to read! Considering all the rubbish she's gone through and how she's then successfully overcome her past, she is an amazing strong lady, someone I respectfully admire. Anyway, back to Edgeplay, it is a very good thing that at least there is something visual out in the shops for us to buy about The Runaways! All I was saying is that it's a pity that Joan Jett's account is totally missing from it; it would have been really lovely to hear her side of the story and view more Runaways original songs! Best wishes Lory xo

You can order Edgeplay on Amazon or at the Sacred Dogs Entertainement website. If you chose to get it from Sacred Dogs you can get a copy signed by Vicki Tischler Blue.
It's great to finally have a wonderful fan site about the Runaways where all aspects of the band can be freely discussed. Thank you!

Hey Lory! Glad to have met some fellow Edgeplay/Runaways fans. I totally know what you mean about Kim Fowley. Even time he appears on screen I feel like vomiting.
I appreciate your warnings about the content of "Neon Angel." I've wanted to get it for a while, but I've heard that an updated version is supposed to come out. Does anyone know about a release date on the new edition? I haven't seen anything about this on Cherie's website.

Hi JettSteph21! Your welcome! About Neon Angels: I was wondering just the same when I finished off reading it...in about one evening - totally enjoyable! Apart from the hard parts which should not prevent you from buying it, nor I would anticipate any of the contents, I totally recommend it. I have been checking myself too if a new updated edition of Neon Angel will be published and so far I could not find anything on the subject. Browsing Cherie's website and this one is certainly worth it. Also I read there were plans to turn the autobiography into a feature film. Have no idea about the developments for this project, a fantastic one if it were to be materialized on film I think... I will keep you posted if I hear news on Neon Angels' new edition and the movie. Best wishes Lory xx

i think we need to remember this is hollywood and things get distorted for the sake of making a more "sellable" product. we see what has been edited and from what i am told privatly reedited movie. just like laura ingalls wilders. little house books where "enhanced " . from what kim said on the interview, it was easy to see what he was trying to do as far as make them into a tightknit group. we have a lot of people who were doing drugs and booze trying to remember things from about 30 years ago.the girls didnt understand the miltary method of breaking people down and then rebuilding them.i'm not making excuses for anyone but also trying to cover the bills must not have been too easy . try to feed and house and move 5 girls , their equipment and what ever entourage they had with promoters always trying to shortchange you or not pay at all. plus trying to get someone to book and pay a decent fee for an practically unheard of girl band. from what i've seen in interviews. kim does not look like a rich man. music is like acting. most people are lucky to make a couple grand a year at it. that's why i've never pushed my self in music too hard or tried to write books, stories or songs. rent the movie songwriter with willie nelson. it gives you a good idea of the music business. i've had friends and relatives in it for decades. i' make more money driving a truck!record companies used to charge musicians or reduce their royalty for breakage of records. what this meant is that they figured a certain amount of the records made would get broke before the consumer ever got them home. the companies would drop them out of a 4 story building and thats how their figured the percentage! tthe whole business is like that!plus they all liked different music except for lita and sandy.i am greatful for kim fowley bring them to us.i'm sure there was shenaigans going around on all sides and blame. but the music is the important thing. that's what i love. and since i dont know any of them poersonally to get the true story. i take everything with a grain of salt. look at all the big stars kids who cannot make it in their folks business ar at least the same level.

Hi Tim
I strongly recommend Cherie Currie's autobiography Neon Angel to you as well.
Then you'll see why for some of us Runaways fans is almost impossible to thank Kim Fowley. Exploitation of underage girls, verbal and psychological abuse is no joke.
Kim Fowley supplied the practical tools to get the band to do it, to record songs for the albums, and touring across US, Europe, Japan, etc but ultimately the girls did it. They put themselves together, they had the ultimate say on whom they did and did not want to be part of the band.
I understand perfectly your point of view as well as Kim Fowley's takes on the whole enterprise, but quite possibly, if the Runaways had been managed by a non abusive charachter not taking advantage on the whole business and the girls themselves, maybe they would have lasted a little longer and perhaps with the five-piece line up we all cherish and love.
That was just my personal opinion.
Cheers
Lory

What happened to the "quote" option?
"Then you'll see why for some of us Runaways fans is almost impossible to thank Kim Fowley."
I think it's interesting when watching this film that only Cherie seems almost obsessed with stressing the negative about Fowley. Even in unrelated interviews with Joan Jett she says she had a very different experience and Lita Ford even thanks Kim Fowley for getting her into the music biz.

Hi Dag Although I gather Cherie Currie may not be your personal favorite Runaways I recommend her Neon Angel's book reading to you as well. We all react differently to life events - these five girls were teenagers when stardom hit them along with constant pressure from their managers. Cherie is not the only one quoting examples of mistreatment, insults, abuse on the girls - Kari Krome, Jackie Fox and even Lita Fors all admitted the "dog" calling stuff and worse. Sandy West confirmed verbal and emotional abuse, particularly on Cherie and Jackie. Have you seen Mayor Of The Sunset Strip? Kim Fowley is featured in the documentary as well as Cherie expressing her opinion about him....What you hear her saying I think is what actually happened on the "Kim Fowley sex education classes" Cherie mentions in Edgeplay..... Possibly because Joan Jett and Sandy West met through Kim first and started jamming together and then looking for girls to join the band with him...I don't know..perhaps he had more respect for them than he had for Cherie somehow or Jackie. Maybe he saw they had lots of potential or even he might have been frightened at some unconscious level to mess with either Lita, Sandy or Joan. Certainly it does not explain nor justify his name calling and constant threats on the whole band in order to keep it together. What if instead of a Kim Fowley those talented five girls had a woman as a manager ? Kind regards Lory

Kim fowley is a low life pedophile any good he did was over shadowed by the abuse of children.

Hi Home girl That is more or less what I was trying to say with far too many words - I do not know the man but for what I have heard I agree with you and Cherie Currie! Kind regards Lory x

He only messed with the most insecure ones, the weaker ones. The harder ones to crack were Joan, Lita & Sandy, so he left them alone. I read NEON ANGEL years ago and immediately wrote Cherie a letter afterwards and within 1-2 weeks I received a letter and an autographed pic. Great surprise, I was not expecting it!

Hi Angus95 Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox most insecure and weaker ones?....I would not be so sure about that. Perhaps they must have been not that upfront like Lita Ford, but weak and insecure are not the right terms to picture them. Kim Fowley, regardless of the reasons behind his nasty attitude towards some Runaways more so than others, was a real monster who took advantage of the whole business in every possible way he could. kind regards Lory
