Lita Ford put a hold on her carefree, beach-living, Caribbean lifestyle and resurrected that of a rock-and-roller.
Ford, 50, will do so at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ricochet Nightclub in Fort Myers. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the show.
Known as the queen of heavy metal in the 1980s, Ford has spent most of the past 15 years semi-retired, living on a private Caribbean island with her husband Jim Gillette and their two children, James, 12 and Rocco, nearing his eighth birthday.
"I think after 15 years, I got the itch," Ford said. "We were all itching for rock and roll.
"My kids are at the right age. You don't want to put them on a tour bus with a bunch of stinky, sweaty, beer-drinking guys. The kids will miss the island. They fish and they go snorkeling. They ride their four-wheelers down on the beach."
James and Rocco might even join their mom onstage.
"I've got tattoos all over the place, and so does my wife," Gillette said. "My kids have mohawks. We look like the equivalent of the Adams family, but in reality, we're more like 'Leave It To Beaver.'
"We decided that if we could get paid to take the kids on a bunch of field trips, that would be great."
Ford is finishing a new CD, "Wicked Wonderland," to be released later this year. She said she might play one or two songs from it Saturday and while touring the rest of the summer across the nation and in Europe.
"This hasn't lost the Lita vibe," she said. "It's still Lita. There's no doubt about that. You'll have your '80s, you'll have your '90s and you'll have your current sound. It's toned down, high-energy and extremely sexy.
"We've got one ballad, 'Sacred.' It's a beautiful, beautiful love song."
Ford said she would play all of her hits during the 90-minute show.
"Back to the Cave," "Gotta Let Go," and "Kiss Me Deadly," will be on the set list. She also will perform a cover of Sammy Hagar's version of "One Way to Rock," and of course, her duet with Ozzy Osbourne, "Close My Eyes Forever."
No, Osbourne will not be on hand.
"The audience is going to sing his part," Ford said. "If you can get enough alcohol into them, they'll do a good job.
"It's one of our encores. Everyone should be good and ready."
Ford said Ricochet provided the perfect venue for the first of her comeback shows.
"It's going to be our first show and a lot of fun," Ford said. "It's a stress-free gig. A good warmup show. We wanted somewhere fun and out of the way."
Asked if she had mellowed over the years, Ford said absolutely not.
"My life has never been mellow," she said.
"I have two boys, and we home-school them. They're half me and half Jim. They're pretty much a handful."
Ford said she's excited about hitting the road again.
"It's hard work," she said. "You forget that when you haven't done it in a long time. I wasn't ready for it at first."
