"OMG, -Insert band name here- is, like, too mainstream, and they make money now, so I can't like them. I have to go find some obscure band that nobody's ever heard about so I can become a "fan" of them until they get popular!"
Why do people do this?

Trendys do that all the time. Bands don't change much, but fans do. Success breeds contempt and jealousy. I've made this same observation in numerous forums. It seems that trendys only appreciate starving musicians, and thanks to things like napster, limewire, and the like, most of them WILL starve But should you be one of the LUCKY ones, sleep with one eye open, for once you taste the least commercial success, you have by default "sold out" even if you did NOTHING DIFFERENT on your current recording than what you did on any previous ones. You just got noticed. SHAME ON YOU! Makes me wonder why i still play music.. wait, no, it don't.. coz i love it. So one day i too will be a "sell out" if all goes well
