I was going to wait and do this later in the month, but last night a friend made my 3-midnight shift go a lot faster courtesy of a $10 cert to spend on iTunes. I used it to buy...
Doro: Warrior Soul
It usually doesn't take me almost a year to get a new Doro album but when WWE bombards me with four must have dvds in a year, music gets pushed to the back burner. I really wish I hadn't waited so long now that I have this.
Prior to this album my favorite Doro solo cd was Force Majuere. I was a Warlock fan and several of the cds post-FM didn't stick with me much. I always liked a few songs on each disc but didn't spend a lot of time with any of them on repeat until Love Me In Black, with which I'm still ridiculously obsessed. Call of the Wild was ok, and I liked a few songs on Fight but I'd been waiting for another must-repeat Doro cd.
Warrior Soul fits the bill almost perfectly. Granted, it's only been a day since I downloaded it, and most of that day has been spent listening to "Heaven I See" over and over and over and over and over again, but I have gone through the rest three or four times and am very very happy.
I got into The Runaways through Lita Ford and then found Joan Jett, so I've always been more metalhead than punk, and I like to rock. Warrior Soul has some rockers on it: "You're My Family," "Haunted Heart," "Strangers Yesterday," "Thunderspell" and the title track especially lend themselves to a little headbanging. "Creep Into My Brain" is growing on me and "My Majesty" will probably seep in a little more if I can just get past "Heaven I See" without putting it on single repeat again. I love that song. "Above The Ashes" is all right, though it doesn't grab me like some of the past ballads did. I might like it better later. "Shine On" is a song I recommend skipping though - unless you want to cry and play it twenty times in a row, which is what I did this morning before coming to work. If you've never had a friend die in a car crash it might not have the same effect that it did on me, but if you have, only listen to this song if you're in the mood to relive it and shed a few tears.
Obviously, "Heaven I See" is my current favorite but there are a few competing for the repeat button. So all in all, Warrior Soul is definitely worth getting if you like to rock and is especially good for any Doro fan.
