Welcome to the forum, cheriejett. Are you going crazy over the live-in-Japan videos on YouTube like I have? d*** if that isn't some of the best eye candy on the internet.

I feel really old now, it looks like it's only JJ fans that discover that there was a band before. I got introduced to the band's music by a spoiled kid in my class (way back in '76) who got some much money from his rich parents that he bought every record with leather jackets on the sleeve. Whe he played me the debut I taped it and was blown away. I bought The Runaways and Queens Of Noise and remember getting Live In Japan for Sinterklaas (thats the holiday where you Americans got your Sant from). i took the booklet apart and covered my wall with Runaways photos. I've been a fan since. I'm not the much of a post Runaways fan. I sam JJ+BH once opening for Scorpions but I was not impressed, though hearing Cherry Bomb live was a blast! Still play all my Runaways vinyl on a regular basis and can't wait to see that movie.

I discovered Joan Jett the old-fashioned way- T.V ;D I was flipping through channels and saw Joan performing, none other than,I Love Rock N Roll.I was 10 years old and in dire need of a role model since I didnt have one at the time.I dont want to sound cheesy but I was really mesmerized.Anyways,I looked her up on youtube and that's how I discovered The Runaways. They became my #1 idols.I even tried to cut my hair into a Joan Jett shag but failed miserably

Family member into them. Saw the last show. Joan told me once, "I wish you could have seen a better show."

Having been born in '83, I missed out on The Runaways while they were together. Soo jealous of all of you who got to see them live, and those who know/have met Joan!
The first time I heard The Runaways was in '99, I was 16. I was watching Detroit Rock City (that movie about the 4 teen guys in the '70s that are trying to get to a KISS concert), 'School Days' started to play and I was instantly smitten ! I have loved The Runaways and Joan Jett ever since. 'School Days' will always be one of my all time fave songs.

I... I'll never forget that day. I was sitting in the sofa, turned on the TV and saw School days' video, when it finished i just thought: "OMG they rock! who are they?" (actually I thought they were from the 2000, I got upset when I got noticed they used to play in the 70's.)

Hi, everyone. This is my first post here. I've lurked a bit and enjoyed your threads. I was 15 in 1976, pre-punk (that came a bit later). When I saw the Runaways first in Creem magazine, then Circus and Crawdaddy, I could not put them down. Staring for hours. It took a few years for me to figure out why. In 1976 there was no support for teenage lesbian lust! Now I know that JJ made me a lesbian , and I'm dying to tell her so. (I'm just one of the millions, I know.) I've been so hot for her for 34 years! Her toughness cracked open my mind and let in some light back then. But I didn't get to actually hear their music until a few years later in the burgeoning punk scene in my isolated Canadian city, when an all-girl band started to perform "School Days" (still far and away my fave Runaways song). More recently, I've spent the last few years recovering from a very traumatic event. This year I finally regained the desire to be alive on this planet, and it's down to Joan, who will never know she kicked my *** this spring and got me to pick up my axe again and resume rocking and rolling. She is so totally my hero, for ten thousand different reasons. I get to see her live in Vancouver August 27! I'm so horned up for that show, everyone I know is sick of hearing about it already! Joy

Aww Joy that was amazing:) Music(not one artist in particular, though I totally get that too) saved my life too on many occasions(not to take a line from Joan; but she's definitely not the only one).
If you're an artist of any sort, you breathe it like oxygen. You must make it, and you must have it in your life.
Cheers for hanging in there, Joy:) Hope is sometimes all we have left, and all we forget we have.

Thank you for those sweet words, rawkitoff! I love your name; hear it in my head with emphasis on the consonants.
I borrow lines from JJ all the time; after all, she's always said she writes from real life. Here's a Runaways (actually a Lou Reed) line that I've been thinking about a lot this spring:
She started dancin' to that fine fine music You know her life was saved by rock and roll
And no, Joan is definitely not the only one. But she was the first. I mean, so "first" that I didn't even know quite what it was, LOL!
Maybe I'll start a thread at the off-topic board about "not the only one". Would love to chat about that.
