I can assure you that Cherry Red does pay fees. It all must go through Universal.
As far as the movie, we don't know if/how band members were/were not contacted. So, Jackie, Vicki? Did the production team try to contact you? If you don't want to answer, by all means don't-we are all just curious.

Regarding the "Flaming Schoolgirls" questions (which I maybe should have started a new thread for since it's unrelated the "Neon Angels" movie), well....
I don't want to start a big discussion about Kim Fowley or anything (I know he's a sensitive topic!), but if you look at the back of the original LP it says "Concept and compilation by Kim Fowley", so that may give some clues as to why it might have come out without the knowledge of some band members. All of the material on it was unreleased outtakes from "Queens of Noise" studio sessions and the "Live In Japan" recordings (plus those two Cherie demo songs which were from after she'd just quit the band I think), so none of it was probably covered under whatever royalty/contracts they had for the albums. So my guess is that maybe since this stuff was out of that realm, it was compiled and released via Kim back in 1980 when it first came out, and who knows what the publishing/royalties arrangement was on those songs. Cherry Red is a legitimate label though, so I'm sure they pay for whatever the arrangement was.
And I have to say, though it's a bummer that Jackie and some other members might not have known about the LPs release, as a fan to me this is one of the most (if not the only) exciting thing to be released by the band since they stopped releasing official LPs in 1978. All the other releases are just the same songs repackaged, reordered, over and over. It would be cool if Mercury/Universal/whoever would have taken an interest and done a nice box set or anthology at some point that released some of this rare material via proper channels or whatever.
And as a side note- Kim was responsible for the only other unreleased material that has surfaced, the "Born To Be Bad" stuff came out via him too. I wonder if he's got other stuff in his vaults... I kind of doubt it, he probably would have released it by now too! haha...

Kim Fowley has a disappointing update on the movie. I was wondering if the writer's strike affected this project. This is from 6-17-08 LA Weekly Blogs: Unfortunately, fans waiting for the much-buzzed-about Runaways movie will have to wait a little longer. Fowley (who's been busy with his Sirius Satellite radio show) says the project was put on hold after the Writer’s Strike. blogs.laweekly.com/play/news/no-harm-no-fowley-runaways-riv/

Fowley's MySpace blog has this update: UPDATE: Just heard from Joan Jett's PR people, and the film is in fact, in pre-production with Art and John Linson producing. No actresses attached yet, but we'll let you know when there is.

Variety has a news update on the finances and casting timing. River Road to finance 'Runaways' Floria Sigismondi to write, direct rock biopic By TATIANA SIEGELRiver Road Entertainment has stepped in to finance "The Runaways," the rock 'n' roll biopic about the '70s all-female rock band featuring Joan Jett, Cherie Curie and the late Sandy West. Film will be written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, best known for helming musicvids for David Bowie, the White Stripes and Marilyn Manson. Art and John Linson are producing alongside Bill Pohlad. Jett will exec produce the film (Daily Variety, April 17, 2007).
"The Runaways" is casting and is slated to go into production in late fall.
"It's great to be in business with River Road again," said Art Linson. "Bill and his team were fantastic partners on 'Into the Wild,' and we were looking for an opportunity to work with them again."
Film follows the rock band from its early days on the Sunset Strip through the girls' meteoric rise to their dissolution and disillusionment.
River Road's credits include "Brokeback Mountain," "Lust, Caution" and "Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus." The indie production and finance company is in production on the Terrence Malick-helmed drama "The Tree of Life," starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn.

You ROCK Wasted! Thanks for the update/article! I guess we always knew that NEON ANGEL might not end up being the title of the movie and now after reading this, I'm wondering if it will be called THE RUNAWAYS!!! Either one would make a good title, in my opinion! Glad to hear it's moving right along!!! Long live The Runaways! [glow=red,2,300]GD[/glow]

Long time lurker first time poster.
I found the description below the belt, though - it was unfortunately expected, as was the advertisement for one of the former band members.

Long time poster first time lurker.
How would YOU have worded the description? I must have missed the "advertisement" you mentioned.
Think positive. Expect an accurate depiction! That's what I'm doing! Gus
