Is it me or does it seem that no one cares anymore? There was a resurgence in popularity when the Runaways movie came out, but it seems with the movies failure it quickly died down. I know Cherie is releasing a new record, but seems to me that the timing is off. Probably would have served better if it released at the same time of the movie or DVD release. Both of those ships have passed.
Also does anyone know if this will be an actual CD or just tracks on Itunes? Does anyone buy Compact Disks anymore? There are now car stereos with hard drives and USB ports instead of CD players. How does that type of thing impact sales, anyone know?
I also read here that Matt Sorum is producing her record. Why is that? The guy is a drummer who has road on the coattails of other bands as the replacement guy. Sounds like a bad choice to me. Is she putting out this record on her own or is there a label behind it?
Despite all, I am a fan. Just curious. My inquireries mostly have to do with how record companies handle things today in a time where all huge record chains have gone under and record labels are soon to follow.

I forwarded your questions to Cherie and this is her reply:
Cherie: Boy... I've been out of the biz for so long that I know anything about it anymore. My book was released at the same time as the movie and my paperback will be out next month and the album a couple of months afterwards. Kenny seems to feel that with proper PR and good songs we will have a shot. I know timing is everything and I hope people will be interested in this new album/cd. With 13 tunes in the can and a possible two more I hope the music will speak for itself, people will like it and will be excited for something when the movie has lost it's steam. Matt took an interest in me. He's done a great job on this record. Everyone deserves a chance and his production is terrific. xxxxx

Thanks for forwarding that. Wasn't expecting that. Cool man. That's good to hear. I am looking forward to it and hope it's a success.
I'm still curious to anyones feedback in regard to the record companies putting out physical disks rather than just going on full downloads like iTunes. Seems like it's a lot cheaper to me and they suffer less loss if a record doesn't do well. That also goes down the avenue of basing sales on an individual song, like a digital single as apposed to a full album sale. I personally only buy and download the songs I want. Helluvalot cheaper. Not long ago I'd buy a CD, grab the tunes I want and take it to a used shop. Lotta work and wasted money. So much easier now.

I understand that downloading from like iTunes is the way of technology now days but to have the actual cd or album in your hands will always be my favorite. The Liner Notes , The Album Work. To go to your local record shop and be so excited to have it in your hands.I know most of that is gone now with the likes of very few record shops being open today but I live for that.
There is no excitement to just downloading a song and in 20 seconds boom you have it. There is no excitement to that at all. I know it is a cheaper way to go and bands are being forced to do that cause they will not make the money back in actual cd & album sales.
I believe Cherie's New CD will be in Hard Disk form and on iTunes for download and on Blackheart Records.

I agree with Donnie, having the actual CD in my hand is a wonderful feeling. I don't buy from itunes anymore, because i don't have the money to spend on that and plus i like buying CDs better.

bb... I like your post! and curiosity! There will always be those who prefer to buy the cd..especially if its a Favorite Artist but with the way things are today with people being more concerned with speed and convenience...that I think eventually cds Sadly will be phased out and hard to come by It may have been wise in some respects to release a cd around the time of the movie but there is alot to be said also for releasing things in spurts and keeping Cherie out there!and now there is also a whole new younger generation getting to discover Cherie...and The Runaway for the very first time... So more interest more sales etc...I Love the raw quality of Cherie's vocals and they are stronger and even richer now...personally I think Matt Sorum is a Great! choice not only for his skills but he has been in the business a long time...and has alot of experience to offer and connections as well...There will also be alot of contributions from other Artists and with the right songs...it should be an Amazing! ride! just a heads up there is alot of good footage on youtube of matt and cherie performing together at the OC Fair...If you want to check it out! Great chemistry! Thanks!! for flying The Runaways Message Board... ) and No Downloading! LOL buy the cd... Think you will be glad you did...

I'm closing in on 39 and I still only buy CD's. I don't download or get into any of that.
Still old school like the packaging, liner notes, lyrics, etc and the feel that I actually bought something. or have something to show for it.
So I hope it isn't a completely dying breed. As for me as long as they exist I'll keep buying hard copy.

I'm with you . I still buy vinyl as well. Now vinyl was where the real cool packaging was. The working zipper on Sticky Fingers, the many inserts & goodies in the Kiss albums, colored vinyl & picture discs.
It's good that vinyl has made a comeback & has a nice piece of the pie again. But nothing like the old days walking into a Sam Goody and seeing rows and rows of albums.

I'm almost 28 and I started collecting vinyl when I was 15. I love vinyl. I have some great stuff ! Coloured, marbled colour, transparent coloured, picture discs, hand numbered limited editions... I'm getting excited by just talking about it. I'm gonna go drool over my collection now... In fact I'm gonna start a vinyl thread. I love going thru my collection and showing it to others who appreciate vinyl. So please visit the thread, list your collection and post pics of your faves
