Queens. Thank you so much for that story. I don't think you realize how much YOU mean to me and all the other girls in the band. btw.. I think the show your mom saw me on was Sally Jesse. Wish I had done Oprah but at the time SJR had been around and while and Oprah was on her way up. Much love to you and I speak for ALL the members. Our wonderful Sandy West as well. xx, Cherie Currie

Hey Cherie, omg so glad to see you on here!! Yeah my mom told me you were on Oprah but she might have been watching Sally Jesse so its hilarious that she got the 2 of them confused, lol! I'm one of your Facebook friends and I really enjoyed talking to you on there all the times that we did. I just love you so much Cherie and I have told you that before but I can't tell you that enough. You are so awesome and amazing, I love you and everything you girls did with that band. Thank you so much for being you Cherie, and for coming on here and talking to us all.. ;0

Your appearance on SJR was so cool Cherie. I didn't usually watch that show but, for some reason, I decided to that day. Much to my surprise, there you were.
I liked reading your story queenofnoise!

my dad played me some of joan jett's music as a kid, but i was much more into folk then. got back into her about 5-7 years ago, as i started to come to terms with some truths about myself. i know about the runaways (and so much more, musically and otherwise) through her. i believe joy said a while back in this thread that joan made her a lesbian haha, and i have to say, although i knew that about myself well before i got really into joan, she made me realize, embrace, and eventually love other not "mainstream" aspects of my identity.

I was a 13 year old punk rock rebel. I was a hardcore fan of AC/DC and other bands from the 70's so I wanted to find more bands from the same era. The Sex Pistols were my favorite band and I saw pictures of Joan Jett wearing t-shirts with them on, she also had black hair and make up just like me and leather jacket (I dressed like that even before I knew about her) so I really started to identify with her and I could see myself in her, not only in the looks but also the personality. The first song I heard was 'born to be bad', at first I thought "Oh this sounds nice..." and then in the refrain when it becomes really heavy and the guitar riff I just thought "WOW!", the time stopped and I was hooked! The song also really spoke to me "I called my mother from Hollywood the other day And I said 'mom, I just called to tell ya I joined a rock and roll band And I won’t be coming home no more' "That was my dream at the time, just to get a band and leave the s*** place I lived in, lol ;D 'Cherry Bomb' was the second song that I heard and got really into. "Can't stay at home, can't stay in school"Again, the lyrics spoke to me!! And I just loved the lyrics and the sound of it. It was just a perfect song for me at the time, well it still is and I can never get tired of it! I also love Cherie Currie and her voice to bits. Anyway, these two songs were the first that REALLY blew me away and I'm STILL listening to them non-stop after all these years. The Runaways are one of my favorite bands.

Mine may be unusual but here is my chance to say it. I am almost exactly 10 yrs younger than Joan, so in 1975 I was sheltered - you might say - from the Runaways. My first thing was in 1980 when HBO was fairly new. They played the same movies over and over and one movie came on - FOXES. I must have watched it 100 times. I became a fan of Cherie cause she always made me cry in the movie. Then a couple years later, Joan's epic cover of I Love Rock n Roll came out. It was about this time I started hearing that she was in the Runaways. Later in the 80s, my boyfriend at that time's band started talking about Lita Ford and that she was in the Runaways. So that is how I grew to know of them, although I have remained a loyal fan of Joan's since about '82, once the movie was released it rejuvenated the music to a younger generation. How many times have I seen young kids commenting on youtube under the original vids, saying "Why isnt rock and roll around like this any more', "why wasnt I born before the 80s" and so on... and what about Miley Cyrus singing Cherry Bomb! Makes me see the demand for the music, not only the old fans but the new growing number of fans every day!
