Hi Everyone
This website is awesome!
I am so glad that YouTube exists as it gives the chance to see rare material of favourite bands, artists, etc.
However I have been wondering for some time noe: Does anybody know if there are plans to release a collection of various videos, footage from live appereances (in particualr the 1977 Japan tour) on DVD at some point in the near future??

Hi Lory and welcome to this cool Runaways forum! A Runaways DVD? Ahh yes, the big Runaway question that never goes away. We have been told that people are looking into the possibility but that was a long time ago. I think there are too many legal hurdles to overcome for the Japan footage to ever get an official release. What you see on You Tube is from bootlegs and could disappear if they clamp down on bootleg material over there. Have a nice day! Gus

For Gus:
Thank you Gus!
I thought that due to complicated legal hurdles it might never happen. What a pity! The same legal hurdles that possibly prevented Vicki Blue from using orginal Runaways songs in her Edgeplay movie about our lovely Runaways.... It's a shame though because The Runaways will be remebered as the first rock n roll all-female band ever for many decades. It's been 30 years but the energy is still there and the inspiration absolutely tangibile on plentyful female artists out there. Before The Runaways there were Isis and Fanny: does anybody ever mention them as being influental? Does anybody even remember them?
Perhaps we should be all writing to Joan, Cherie, Jackie and Lita, begging them to do something about it because it would be amazing to finally see proper footage on DVD, not to mention that they would deserve to get a world-wide recognition.
Speaking of recognition: do you know if The Runaways will be inducted into the Rock N Roll of Fame?
Thanks again
and
Best wishes! :-)))

Hi honey, it's never gonna happen i can promise you that..... It's a shame really, and i really can't for the world understand. That the most famous girl rock band ( now legends ) Don't have a DVD or 5 out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But then again this band was domed from the start. Too much fighting over the limelight.... Just look at the landslide Edgeplay made....... It's pathetic really........ But i can give you some good news too )) There is plenty ( well not plenty ) but if you are lucky once in a while a DVD of The Runaways turns up on EBay.................. Those are bootlegs and the only thing available around. Except for all the tapes and stuff i'm sure the girls have themselves..... This girls will never stop fighting with each other. And Kenny & Joan and Lita getting together putting something together ?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH forget it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will never happen..... This girls could make so much money on DVDs if they only could learn to get along and get over them self, jeez............................ If you have a dissent and good computer with a burning system on it, burn down all of The Runaways stuff i have on my site or fin d it on toy tube. Then make yer own Runaways DVD:))) I have many )) Ans most of the people in here do too. They just don't like to talk about it hehe............................ There is also certain sites on net where you can buy most of The Runaways stuff on DVD....... It's bootlegs and the quality is often very bad, but it's there )) I hope this was a little helpful for you. XO V

Hi savagesilk! Thank you very much for your msg, very helpful indeed! Truly appreciated. I am not entirely sure of where and how exactly burn Runaways footage from, because for instance, if you take You Tube, those videos are on Flash Player run, which means you cannot burn them...I wonder about some of the websites you kindly mentioned, such as Ebay (although I do not particularly like Ebay itself) and "others" where most people in here must have made their DVD compilations out.... It would be really, really, really nice to know. May I please kindly ask for your valuable help? Thank you so much. I do agree on the fact that this amazing rock band was doomed from the start. Being managed by a Frankenstein and being teenagers themselves at the time did not help at all. Certainly they are all grown up lovely ladies now so it would be really nice, as you said, for them to get over with the bickering past, forget about the personality differences (that SO make a band unique!) and get on with one final attempt to at least give the fans what they want - a DVD at least? Edgeplay as much as it is informative about the band it lacks a coral objective view of the whole thing as it misses out on music and the spinal bone of the band: Joan Jett. My first favourite is Cherie Currie, followed by Joan. All this to say that I will probably start pestering them with nice sweet emails politely begging for some action to be taken on account of live footage, rare videos to be released on DVD. Do you think it might work out? Best wishes of Merry Xmas and thanks again for your post Kind regards Lory

About Vicki Blue not being able to use Runaways songs in the movie-- then how come it was legal for her to use the concert footage? I don't get it...

The songs she used were non-originals. Gus

Hi Gus
I could not agree more with you with regards to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame if they do not include our Runaways at some stage soon!!
Best wishes
Lory xx

I am not sure if that is correct, I am going to check this out. I know they were able to use original music from the band on the soundtrack due to some loophole in the law.

Wild Thing and Rock N Roll are both non-originals aren't they? Whats to check?
The soundtrack CD says "music from and which inspired Edgeplay" and includes originals which were not used in the film itself.

I agree with savagesilk, I doubt a Runaways DVD will be ever released. But, I'll never give up hope, now that a reunion is impossible. I remember the shows at the Whiskey in either Dec of 77 or Jun of 78 being taped, as there was a professional video camera setup up on the upper level near the dressing rooms, pointing down at the stage area. Also, I doubt The Runaways will make it in to the Rock Hall, unless that Weiner dude from Rolling Stone rag, gets off the board.

Hi rknron Thanks for your post. Who's the guy from Rolling Stones you mentioned? Why is he that important or at least important enough to prevent The Runaways from being inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame? If the Runaways don't deserve it, who does, the Sugababes? Madonna?? Just to point out: The Runaways do not deserve it, they ARE ENTITLED to it! Best wishes Lory x

Jan Wenner , he has been behind the Rock Hall from the start, one of his main criteria for nominations has been said, is how commerciallly successful a band or performer has been.He only wants acts inducted, that will still draw paying customers to his place. That is why there are so many artists that aren't even in "rock-n-roll" inducted there. It's a nice place to visit, but I am not in agreement with the choice of over half the artists inducted there. But,still to that end,ask any random 10 people if they have heard of The Runaways and you will get your answer on "Fame". I believe they should have been inducted anyways, even though their fame was short lived and not widespread.

Joan Jett should be nominated in her own right.
